Dranesville Dragons are Attending, Connecting, and Learning
Thank you, Dranesville families, for your continued partnership in ensuring that students are in school every day. Students' connections with their peers, teachers, and instruction are all positively impacted by being in school daily. The data captured in this newsletter is our chronic absentee rate as of the 147th day of school.
We are looking forward to celebrating our 150th day of school on Thursday, May 2nd! Please note the Spring assessments and events that are planned for students through our last day of school on June 12th.

Spring Assessments Measure Student Learning and Progress
Students will be participating in spring assessments based on their grade level and courses. This includes standardized benchmark assessments and progress assessments. This list of assessments for each grade level provides information about required assessments for each grade level.
Remember, assessment is part of ongoing teaching and learning in the classroom. Teachers may also assign end-of-year projects.
Parents and caregivers can help students perform their best by reminding them to get a good night’s rest and have a healthy breakfast, especially on testing days. It is important that students attend school on these dates. If you become aware of a conflict that could result in your student missing a test, please notify our attendance team as soon as possible.
Spring assessments do not signal the end of coursework for the year. Learning continues through the last day of school. We appreciate you and look forward to our continued partnership as our Dranesville Dragons finish the 23-24 school year strong!
Students at Dranesville Elementary are developing Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and learning skills that will help them to succeed in school and in life. The five POG attributes include:
- Communicator
- Collaborator
- Ethical & Global Citizen
- Creative & Critical Thinker
- Goal-Directed & Resilient Individual
Think about the opportunities and challenges you encounter each day and the skills you use to navigate them. We would love to invite you to participate in our Career Fair on Monday, June 10th to share how Portrait of a Graduate attributes are important in your career and to help our students envision the career opportunities and possibilities that are available for them to pursue.
Please sign up to communicate your interest and availability to participate in our Career Fair on Monday, June 10th.
Dranesville Elementary School is expanding our inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities. We are looking for 1-2 peer models (ages 3 and 4) to join our pre-school special education classrooms. A peer model should demonstrate strong skills across all developmental domains:

Cognitive and Problem-Solving Skills
Communication and Social Emotional Skills

Registering your child early helps our school team to prepare and ensure we have the teachers and resources needed to welcome your child on the first day of school. Please prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. Contact our Registrar, Angela Agana, at 703-326-5200 to schedule a registration appointment. Please note that registration appointments are available now through June 14th.

We are looking forward to the 2024-2025 school year. We need your help in projecting our total enrollment for next school year. It is important that all families with students currently in K through 5th grade complete the Student Intention Form.
For our families who will be returning, we value and welcome your input and insights about your child's strengths and needs in our class placement process. This is also an opportunity to share any specific concerns or considerations with our administrative team.
Please note that classes are formed with careful consideration to a number of factors. Note that specific teacher requests cannot be accepted. Class and teacher assignments will be communicated to families the week of August 12.
Student Intention and Parent Input form due Friday May 10, 2024.
The 24-25 student school supply list is now available. Our PTA will be coordinating School Supply kits for purchase. Stay tuned for ordering information.
